Hi again...
Last night the 5th March 2010 was the official gala evening of the FNB Dance Umbrella 2010...
Works included were by Gregory Maqoma, Gary Gordon, Vincent Mantsoe, Christopher Kindo and Dada Masilo.
The vast diversity of these works resulted in a wonderous celebration of South African dance and talent.
Being part of this programme was a truly remarkable experience, having the chance to reconnect with artists and meeting new ones. It is sad to think that we are in the position we are in regarding funding and sponsors...it makes me wonder what will happen to the training and development of future dance practitioners....
Be that as it may, we can't afford to allow this present situation to numb and dull our progress...dance in South Africa is truly a spiritual giving of the self....no-one has ever been in this industry because it is a cash cow....the love of dancing and expression has resulted in a spirited and committed community of artists...
I hope to see you all at a performance in the coming week...
